Erika Tamura
Program Director
Japanese American Youth Services (JAYS)
Erika Tamura participated in JCYC programs for 6 year as a youth and has since returned to the agency to work with a variety of its programs for a total of now over 17 years. These programs include the JCYC Afterschool Program, JCYC Summer Daycamp and Teen Program, Asian Youth Substance Abuse Project, Integrated Services for Asian Youth and San Francisco YouthWorks. In addition to working at JCYC, Erika serves on the Executive Committee of the Nihonmachi Street Fair, Inc. She is also a Dharma School Teacher at the San Mateo Buddhist Temple and Vice President of the San Francisco Nikkei Bowling Association. What she likes most about working at JCYC is the ³family like² atmosphere. Being a product of the organization, she is amazed at how the organization continues to grow and yet keeps the level of quality programming while servicing thousands of children and youth. Her greatest accomplishment is becoming a mom. During her free time, she likes to organize and plan events, work on scrapbooks, and enjoys sports.
