Tomodachi Summer Program

The Tomodachi Summer Program offers children a unique opportunity to not only build new friendships, but also gain exposure to a variety of activities and interests. Through Tomodachi’s enrichment classes, children can participate in everything from athletic skill development to creative writing. The goal of the program is to offer children a well-rounded experience to minimize the "runaround" that parents often have to endure to ensure that their child is exposed to a diverse array of interests.

Another fundamental aspect of the program is building multi-cultural awareness. In addition to Japanese culture, children will learn about cultures from around the world through performances, arts & crafts, and cooking activities. Through these activities children will not only learn how to appreciate their own cultural backgrounds, but acquire a greater understanding of the valuable and rich historical significance of other cultures and communities.

In addition to the enrichment classes and multi-cultural activities, children will have the opportunity to participate in field trips both inside and outside of San Francisco. Past field trips have included: Marine World, ice skating, and the zoo.

JCYC is particularly proud of the many children who grow up through this program and move on to become participants of the Teen Program and eventually Youth Leaders. All Youth Leaders participate in 40 hours of training to prepare them to be positive mentors for young children. Training topics include: early childhood behavior, how to effectively supervise and implement activities with children; first aid; and safety procedures. The Tomodachi Youth Leaders are supervised by adults who accompany them and the children on outings and provide ongoing training and guidance.

Hours of Operation:
9 weeks during the summer
7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (program activities begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m.)

Tuition (Weekly)
$125.00 per week, per child

Please note that space is limited. Applications will be processed on a first come, first serve basis.

A $125.00 enrollment fee is required to ensure your childœs spot in the program. This fee is NON-REFUNDABLE and will be applied to your childœs final week in the program. Changes may be made to your childœs schedule (i.e. partial cancellation of weeks, addition of weeks if available) up until JUNE 15th. Any changes after this date will result in a forfeit of the enrollment fee. We will be offering a sibling discount rate of $100.00 for each additional sibling, per week for families with 2 or more siblings in our program. Unfortunately, we WILL NOT be able to PRO-RATE any fees this summer. Payment for services will be due at the beginning of each week or earlier.
